Simply Frigid Sunday: Saturday snow comes after a warm Friday

The little hobbies of life are the avenues to capture our interest the most. Weather is a personal favorite. My family resides in North Carolina, and DC has a difficult time being on the Potomac to have accumulating snow except for the 2009-2010 season. North Carolina has even more issues being in the mid-south.  The snow had to overcome a spring like Friday and temperatures in the 40's up to the time the snow began in earnest less than an hour after rain moved into the area. North Carolina residences were excited to see the heavy snowfall but most of the accumulations was lost to the warm soil temps. The snow was heavier east of Raleigh where my family resides. The snow was moderate to heavy in the early afternoon on Saturday. The ground finally turns white and the snowfall accumulations in the local area was around 2.0" of a thick wet heavy snow and roads were beginning to become covered in slush. Then the snowfall intensity was greatly reduced as light snow fell from 4 pm … [Read more...]

Weather Watch: Calm before East Coast Storm?

Wunderground Meteorologist Shaun Tanner Posted by: shauntanner, 5:09 PM GMT on April 20, 2012 +3       As we have been reporting all week, a soaking rain event is expected for the East Coast of the United States this weekend. We have been using three models to watch the progression of a storm that will initially dive into the Gulf of Mexico before moving into Floridalate Saturday. All three models are in agreement of the driving rain likely pretty much along the eastern seaboard through Monday.Florida RainAs the storm moves through the Gulf of Mexico, it will grab a tremendous amount of moisture from the warm gulf. This usually translates to a rain event for Florida, and this storm is no different as it makes its way across the Sunshine State Saturday evening through Sunday morning. The most recent HPC precipitation forecast for the period valid Saturday morning through Sunday morning (image below) calls for much of the state to receive over an inch of … [Read more...]

When I need a good dose of humanity look to my Jack Russells

This is Cody

I had so many serious conversations this week between work, friends, writing, responsibilities, an unexpected death.etc. The next two weeks will be very intense before taking some time to travel and have some fun.....We make things difficult as humans...We hold grudges with families...We make it easier to point blame than to discuss.....We make it easier to forget what really matters.....We make it about me and not we.....Life has such a finality. I received a phone call this week about someone who played a very important role in my life as a teenager had died.....I know that this death brought a finality and reality of that life....Resolution was no more....I need simplification. I look at Sid and Cody. Why do we make life so difficult as humans? I have two soon to be 14 yo Jack Russell Terriers, and they are way past the prime of puppy life. However, old age for both and terminal condition of my oldest one does not stop their simple love of life. They live each to the maximum … [Read more...]

The Pack Powerhouse is basketball mediocre no more

Mark Gottfried took the reigns at North Carolina State University, and broke the curse of the personalities and issues of the past. The basketball program did not have a chance of any success with the greats of the past still a haunting presence in the success and failures at NC State. Jim Valvano was a Superstar; only a Superstar can break the spirit and conscious of a past era. The University did require a new era in athletics, and the new era will be on display at 12:15pm on CBS. NC State plays Georgetown in the Sweet 16, and the outcome is irrelevant in the impact of Mark Gottfried at NC State. My words are for this Sunday,"Pardon our extended absence....WE ARE THE PACK, AND WE ARE BACK!! A last note, the uncertainty in the sports program was difficult for many supporters of the school. They did not waver in the love and loyalty to NC State, and the perseverance paid off...Thank you... Watch the video on Mark Gottfried...
