Romney proposals could disarm Dodd-Frank Published on September 10, 2012 by Alexandra Villarreal Mitt Romney Two proposals put forward by Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney could make it more difficult for U.S. regulatory agencies to implement the 2010 Dodd-Frank Act. Romney’s proposals would require agencies to eliminate existing regulations as new regulations are implemented, while Congress would gain the ability to more easily block the agencies’ regulatory proposals, Bank Investment Consultantreports. Sidney Shapiro, a law professor at Wake Forest University, said that Romney’s policies could lead to legal challenges and delays at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and Federal Reserve Board. “I think it becomes another arrow in the industry’s quiver,” Shapiro said, according toBank Investment Consultant. NBC News: Santorum wins Alabama and Mississippi
By Michael O'Brien, msnbc.com Updated 10:50 p.m. -- Rick Santorum scored victories in the Mississippi and Alabama primaries on Tuesday, depriving Mitt Romney of a signature win in a conservative stronghold and raising fresh doubts about the viability of Newt Gingrich's campaign. The former Pennsylvania senator made his case for being the lone, serious Republican challenger to Romney for the remainder of the primary by besting Gingrich in states the former speaker's campaign had previously said were essential to its long-term viability. “We did it again,” Santorum said to wild applause from supporters in Louisiana, and amid projections by NBC News that he would win both Mississippi and Alabama. Romney had hoped to score a victory in Mississippi, thereby proving his ability to win a state that composes part of the heart of the modern GOP. But he appeared to be heading to a third-place finish in both contests, failing to even surpass Gingrich, a candidate who’s … [Read more...]

Before polls closed, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney appeared to downplay the importance of the contests in the two states. Even before the outcomes were known, he said, rival Rick Santorum is “at the desperate end of his campaign.” “He’s far behind in the delegate count, he’s far behind in the popular … [Read more...]
