NBC News: Santorum wins Alabama and Mississippi

By Michael O'Brien, msnbc.com Updated 10:50 p.m. -- Rick Santorum scored victories in the Mississippi and Alabama primaries on Tuesday, depriving Mitt Romney of a signature win in a conservative stronghold and raising fresh doubts about the viability of Newt Gingrich's campaign. The former Pennsylvania senator made his case for being the lone, serious Republican challenger to Romney for the remainder of the primary by besting Gingrich in states the former speaker's campaign had previously said were essential to its long-term viability. “We did it again,” Santorum said to wild applause from supporters in Louisiana, and amid projections by NBC News that he would win both Mississippi and Alabama. Romney had hoped to score a victory in Mississippi, thereby proving his ability to win a state that composes part of the heart of the modern GOP. But he appeared to be heading to a third-place finish in both contests, failing to even surpass Gingrich, a candidate who’s … [Read more...]

Candidates notch wins as Ohio 'too close to call' Win Mcnamee / Getty Images Supporters of Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney celebrate during a Super Tuesday event at the Westin Copley Place March 6, 2012 in Boston. By Michael O'Brien, msnbc.com Updated 10:52 p.m. ET — A hard-fought battle between Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum in Ohio yielded no quick winner in the state, the prize contest on Super Tuesday that could reshape the battle for the Republican presidential nomination. Both Romney and Santorum notched victories across the country in the caucuses and primaries they had been expected to win. Newt Gingrich won the primary in Georgia, the state from which he had served as a representative in Congress, but trailed in the remainder of states playing host to nominating contests on Tuesday. But the trajectory of the Republican campaign hinged in large part on Ohio, where Romney and Santorum re-litigated their battle from just … [Read more...]

Super Tuesday Blues: The political fiasco continues

Capitol Washington, DC Close Up Photo by donny-wise.com

The Super Tuesday Republican Primary is political high drama for us political junkies at best when a one or both parties are this far along in Presidential nomination process with multiple candidates still in the race. This campaign season is much different as my interest is waning on the entire presidential election, as the problems of America are so grave that we cannot give a leap of faith in committing a vote in November’s election. Campaign promises and nice slogans cannot be the acceptable standard in the upcoming election, as the next President must deal with some of America’s gravest challenges whether voluntary or involuntary. This issues include Fiscal (Tax Code/ Debt Reduction), Education, Energy Independence, Personal Financial Literacy/Financial System Restructuring, and Unemployment Crisis. An evaluation of President Obama in job performance in resolution of any of these issues would be equivalent of a letter grade D at best. This performance is not any evaluation … [Read more...]
