The Republican sweep of the General Assembly in 2010 brought forth many social agenda items forth in legislation, and the battleground was put forth as Democratic Governor Beverly Purdue vetoed a number of bills only to have the General Assembly override her veto. The Republican brought these items up for debate due to the moral obligation or responsibility to the citizens of North Carolina. In the latest move, the amendment to the constitution making gay marriage illegal to be voted upon on the day of the Republican primary. I respect elected officials bringing forth issues to protect the moral fiber of society and the well being of the citizens they represent. These moral agenda legislation has been a distraction for politicians scared of dark economic blight in our state that is coming to the forefront in the last few weeks.
